About us

The Icaria Beach Volleyball Association is made up of people from all over the world who meet up on Icaria beach, next to Port Olimpic in Barcelona, all year round.

In 2005 we received the recognition of the Generalitat of Catalunya as a not-for-profit sports association.

The association was created several years ago when a group of friends started to organise themselves on our favourite beach in order to play beach volleyball. Our aim was to be open in contrast to the selfishness of several closed groups who didn't let anyone else join the play if they weren't in the group. We are proud to play and accept new members and new ideas (see our history in the editorial).

In the winter we meet up on Saturdays and Sundays from around 1pm until it gets dark. We meet earlier because we have more hours of sun. In spring, the start time is more like 3pm, and during the summer when the days are hotter and the evenings longer, more likely to be at 5pm.
